Flying
According to the Hitch-Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy there is an art to flying, or rather a knack. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss... That is much how one could describe soaring with a paraglider. If you can pick up a nice little updraft, the falling to the ground can be postponed for over half an hour.![]() |

I took my soaring lessons in South-East Poland in 1993, where the only challenge was staying out of the power lines at the bottom of the hill. That is one fine way to learn about V1 😅

Flying Cessna’s 150, 152, and 172 Skyhawk.
The 150 and 152 were a little cramped for my 6’5” frame, so I switched to the larger 172 Skyhawk, once the basics were mastered. That is also the plane I soloed on.
