QUALITY SERVICES

Expert Witness Testimony

We have participated in the successful defense of vehicle manufacturers in frontal impact, side impact, and roll-over litigation cases. [ 30mph Crash Event Timing ] HORK Enterprises brings over 25 years of industry experience in vehicle and occupant crash safety engineering. We can further tap into another 100 years of experience through our network of experts. With that we are very well positioned to testify on the functioning of vehicle restraint systems. We have recent experience with the development of Advanced Airbag Systems, Occupant Classification, Suppression, Low Risk Deployment, as well as Side Impact and Roll-Over Occupant protection systems. This can be utilized to clarify the workings of seat-belts and airbags under real-world conditions. Good expert witness testimony is based on up-to-date knowledge and thorough research in every case.

Computer Simulation Analysis

We have always been on the forefront of utilizing Computer Simulation Analysis for the development and assessment of airbags, seat-belts, and occupant safety systems integration. [ Out-of-Position airbag deployment analysis ] Simulation analysis provides an assessment of the performance of the restraint system in off-axis accidents for which test results don't exist. Occupant scaling techniques have been used to assess the performance of the restraint system for occupants with height and weight not represented by crash dummies. Does the performance of an airbag change significantly if one of the tethers fails during deployment? Does a larger passenger airbag door pose a greater risk of injury than a smaller one? Computer Simulation Analysis can provide the answer and visualize the difference. We have experience with all major simulation analysis codes which has allowed us to provide contra-expertise of simulation analysis, presented as evidence in litigation.

Project/Engineering Management

[ Network Diagram ] Projects sometimes run into trouble. Time is running out and the performance targets have not yet been reached. If additional expertise and project management skills can help, we can make a difference. Our broad experience with safety systems, software, and hardware development can be utilized to pull the project back on track. We have taken on complex, multi-disciplinary projects and lead them to a successful completion.
[ Advanced Airbag Rule Test Requirements ]

Interpretation of Safety Legislation

The NHTSA is actively developing new safety legislation. While the Advanced Airbag Rule has completed its phase in, additional legislation for Side Impact protection and Roll-Over has been introduced. Certification options, phase-in, requirements ... , it is not difficult to lose track. Meanwhile the IIHS is looking to enhance occupant safety with new test modes. How do these requirements align with European regulations and consumer testing? What about China-NCAP and Latin-NCAP? We can turn it all into clear text and imagery and explain it to your associates.

Patent Research

[ Seat Cushion Restraint System ] For many years the automotive safety field has seen much new development. Dual output inflators, side curtain airbags, occupant classification systems, seat designs to mitigate the effects of rear impact, weight sensors, airbag designs for low risk deployment, active and passive venting, novel cushion manufacturing techniques, the list goes on. Inevitably conflicts arise. Are two inventions different or is one a disguised copy of the other? With twenty years of research experience we can help tell the difference. We have assisted Alston & Bird, LLP successfully defending the validity of airbag patents before the PTAB and we have assisted DLA Piper, LLP successfully defending against an alleged weight sensor patent infringement suit.

High Performance Computing

[ Compute Cluster ] While in the previous decade there seemed to be no end to the ever increasing speed of processors, currently the performance advance is made by added more processors or processor cores to the equation. Linux clusters are the most efficient solution to provide performance for the CAE engineers, ever hungry for more.
We have extensive experience with the setup and management of Linux Clusters for High Performance Computing. Integrating such a cluster into the existing corporate infrastructure can be tough. Job scheduling, Linux-Windows integration, and cluster management are issues we have delt with more than once.
Having managed web, mail and database servers for 20 years has made us knowledgeable about systems security, too. We learned about the Chinese provinces by blocking their networks one by one at the firewall.
